The Best Conversations Happen Offline – vivo Wants You to #SwitchOff

Smartphones were meant to connect us to the rest of the world and bring us closer to those who were far away. However, because of its excessive and mindless usage, smartphones are now actually distancing us from those who are actually close to us, especially our children.

Smartphones keep us connected, entertained, and informed. But sometimes, they also keep us away from the people who matter the most.

vivo’s #SwitchOff campaign is a reminder to pause, disconnect from screens, and reconnect with real moments.

This year’s campaign tells a heartfelt story—a father, caught up in his phone, unknowingly drifts away from his son. The child craves his attention, but the endless distractions create an emotional gap.

The message is simple: technology should bring us closer, not push us apart.

To take this beyond just storytelling, vivo introduced real-world activations. In partnership with Gola Sizzlers, they designed dining table accessories that encourage people to put their phones away while eating.

The campaign also appeared in high-traffic areas like malls, metros, and residential spaces, reminding people to be present in the moment.

Digital platforms joined in too. Apps like Swiggy, Uber, and Zepto integrated in-app prompts, gently nudging users to take a break.

Small reminders, big impact.

To strengthen the message, vivo collaborated with digital well-being experts. Catherine Price, author of How to Break Up with Your Phone, shared tips on maintaining a healthy relationship with technology.

Child psychologist Riddhi Doshi Patel highlighted how parents being emotionally available can shape stronger bonds with their kids.

A study conducted with Cyber Media Research revealed something eye-opening.

Many parents and children admit that excessive smartphone use causes conflict at home.

Surprisingly, kids are more open to setting phone-free zones. They even say they’d disconnect—if their peers did the same.

vivo is taking things a step further by introducing “Switch Off Day” on December 20, 2024.

Families are encouraged to turn off their phones for an hour and focus on real-life conversations.

A small action, but one that can make a big difference.

This campaign isn’t about ditching phones altogether. It’s about using them mindfully.

Technology should help us connect, not create distance. With #SwitchOff, vivo reminds us that while digital connections are great, the best moments happen when we’re fully present.
